CHICAGO QUADRITOS PRINT

Okay, the actual painting on site is based on the Eagle capturing the Serpent image from the Mexican flag but I wanted to do something twisted from that that made the flag unidentifiable. So I abandoned the original flag colors and hand painted each 2” x 2” wood “quadrito”,

there were close to 300 of them with my tiny ½” brush in hand and as I went along the idea to pixelate the images struck me. It was all pretty revelatory, each “quadrito” would be a tiny original painting but from way back (from the entrance really) you would kind of make out the image of the Eagle and Serpent. They are both the same color so I differentiated them by making the serpent pixels in circles and the eagle pixels square, the background is in blues and flips from circle to square wherever I felt it would look good to. This all really goes on in my mind. I swear. The image I chose to show here is based on the actual painting but I had to enhance since my camera and lighting could not capture the entire piece evenly so I knew I would have to repaint the entire image digitally, and this is the result of that, it’s a beautiful piece, different from the original but still related closely. This piece also took a long time to complete, something I feared but I am not letting myself not finish projects these days as I so often am guilty of. I’m glad I went through the pains as I really like this piece as much as the original.
